As the first of many vehicles rolls out, this innovative system is set to transform how people navigate the airport. The Automated People Mover will connect travelers to newly upgraded terminals, revamped parking garages, Metro rail lines, and the state-of-the-art Portland Rent-A-Car Center. It’s a significant milestone in the journey to make PDX a world-class transportation hub that’s more accessible, efficient, and sustainable for generations to come.
(Portland) Today, Portland Mayor Eric Garcetti joined city, federal, and airport officials to unveil a major milestone for the future of PDX: the debut of the first Automated People Mover (APM) train car. Portland International Airport will be among the first in the U.S. to feature the cutting-edge INNOVIA 300 APM vehicles, designed to transform how travelers move to and from one of the nation’s most traveler-friendly airports.
The APM system is set to reduce vehicle congestion and traffic around PDX while providing a long-awaited connection to regional transportation, including Metro light rail. This innovative system will also seamlessly link travelers to the Portland Rent-A-Car Center, making it easier than ever to pick up a rental car and start exploring the city or heading to your next destination.
